Eco Fashion Show

by The YourWirral Team

I have been working with some of the young people from the Shaftesbury Youth club in Tranmere. The club has boys and girls aged 9-19 and the play scheme has primary school aged children. We have been preparing for a fashion show using second hand clothes, recycled materials and odds and ends to create new outfits. They have worked really hard on their creations and we are almost ready for the Eco fashion show in the sports hall downstairs at the Shaftesbury on Tuesday 5th of June (doors open at 6.30pm, show starts @ 6.45pm). As well as the fashion show there will be stalls by local artists and community groups to reflect the theme of the event. The show will coincide with World Environment day. We are also going to have refreshments from `the Green Community Shop and Centre.I am hoping to attract Russell and Helen Keenan who were feature on “It’s Not Easy Being Green” on BBC2. They have built and environmentally friendly house in nearby Saughall Massie.

If anyone is interested -eco designers, musicians who make recycled materials, food retaillers who offer healthy options to appeal to young people, press, promotion of new recycling projects in the area, please get in touch.

Leasowe Common – have YOUR say

by Ian Lewis

I’ve posted before about the sad state of Leasowe Common – litter, neglect and dog mess left for someone else to clean up.  This Wednesday, the Action Team has arranged for the whole subject to be discussed at the Area Forum.

Anyone is entitled to attend and ask questions of the Council officer who will explain the Council’s management of this important local amenity.  The Forum meets at Leasowe Millennium Centre, Twickenham Drive, Leasowe at 7pm on Wednesday 21 February.

Birkenhead Park – what a change!

by The YourWirral Team

We took our children to Birkenhead Park on Sunday.  Wow, what a change.  It’s looking great.  We went to the playground area and it would seem that it is being rebuilt and even though it is not finished, parents were taking their children onto some of the new play equipment. It just shows how much used and needed the play area is.  The new equipment looks fabulous, attractive, different and interesting. We look forward to seeing it complete and taking our children again.

If you haven’t been to the park for a while, like we hadn’t, it is definately worth a visit.

Thank you!

by Ian Lewis

On Saturday I organised a litter pick at the car park of Leasowe Station.  We filled 11 bags with litter (some of it too disgusting to mention) and cleaned up the car park.  We’ve asked Merseytravel to make sure the litter doesn’t built up again and a couple of litter bins would be helpful!
