Tranmere has undergone a lot of changes of the past few years. The old shops, flats and library have been taken down and replaced by new ones.
There is a new shopping area on the corner of St Paul’s Road and Old Chester Road, which houses the sculpture pictured. It includes items such as TVs, radios, books and a voilin case! To my eye it looks like a pile of junk in the literal sense. Something you would find at Bidston tip or down a back alley.
Tranmere is a regeneration area, hence the building activity to improve the facilities for the benefit of the community. I was wondering what the purpose was of this piece of art. To inspire? Uplift? Provoke thought? I know we all see different things in art, but I find this sculpture depressing. I would have thought that they would have used something more beautiful and decorative to brighten up the place, rather than something that strikes of a reminder of decay and seems to be a canvas for graffiti.
What do you think? Do you live or work in the area? What do you think when you pass it?
